MyCAA Military Spouse Career Advancement

Unofficially referred to as Spouse Tuition Assistance, the Department of Defense recently expanded Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program can provide up to $6,000 of Financial Assistance for military spouses

Program Update: MyCAA Program to be Phased Back In.

On February 16, DoD temporarily halted MyCAA program operations to review the software applications, financial assistance documents and overall program. This pause will be ended in phases over the coming weeks. Currently enrolled spouses with approved Financial Assistance documents will be able to start taking new courses after March 13, 2010.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program provides up to $6,000 (over 2 years) of Financial Assistance for military spouses who are pursuing degree programs, licenses or credentials leading to employment in portable career fields.

MyCAA Eligibility

Spouses of Active Duty servicemembers of the Department of Defense and activated members of the National Guard and Reserve Components (on Title 10 orders) are eligible.

Note: Military spouses who are legally separated by state law or court order are ineligible. In addition, spouses who are Active Duty members or activated Guard or Reserve members themselves are ineligible.

Note: The MyCAA program does not include Coast Guard spouses.

MyCAA Financial Assistance (FA) pays tuition for education and training courses, and licensing/ credentialing fees. This includes state certifications for teachers, medical professionals and other occupations requiring recognized certifications; licensing exams and related prep courses; Continuing Education Unit (CEU) classes including those offered through professional associations; and degree programs leading to employment in Portable Career Fields.
